Breaking Bookstagram

I couldn’t have predicted how much maintaining a “bookstagram” account would negatively affect my progress in finishing this book. I joked about it a lot in my posts, but I was basically taking all the creative energy I should have been putting towards writing and putting it towards making posts and reels. The more I posted about my book, the more I felt like a fraud since my book wasn’t even complete yet! You can imagine how problematic that mindset is when you don’t even have a completed work yet.

It took a fair amount of time to de-program that feeling even after I stopped posting to go back to writing.

About a month ago I was finally able to jump back into properly writing, and things are moving again. I completed the first half of the book and its currently in my wife’s hands for a beta read (No red flags so far). I’m on track to have the second half ready for her in a couple of months.

What happens after that I haven’t quite figured out yet, but I hope I can feel more authentic about returning to this account after I have a completed work to talk about.
